Cornford Builders worked on the refurbishment of our home for just over two years. For a domestic property, it was a big project. As is not unusual for such projects, it grew over time. This was not a bad thing as it allowed us to develop our ideas while having a much better understanding of the issues involved than we did before we started. Our architect was quite ambitious in the materials and techniques used, in part, because we wanted the house to be as energy-efficient as possible. However, we were constrained as we were doing a “refurbishment” rather than a “new build”.

Stuart Barnett oversaw the work on-site and had the job of delivering the mix of ideas emanating from us and our architect. I’m sure this was not always an easy job but he good-humouredly succeeded and was unfailingly supportive. Stuart’s approach greatly aided the success of the project. Cornford Builders were conscientious, reliable, careful and fair, which gave us much confidence in their ability to deliver. The workmanship of their employees and subcontractors was excellent, and we have subsequently used several of these people in follow up works.

 

The result was a house that won an award from the Local Authority Building Control association for being the best refurbishment in the south-east in 2019. Included in the certificate was the statement “For building excellence in the delivery of outstanding construction and workmanship”.

After living in it for two years, we remain delighted with our new home.
